Allianzenbildung: Kunst und Antirassimusarbeit

„Allianzenbildung“ lautet das Thema, unter dem sich das Public Art Festival SOHO IN OTTAKRING 2004 und 2005 mit Möglichkeiten egalitärer Zusammenarbeit von KünstlerInnen und antirassistischen AktivistInnen beschäftigt. Anlässlich der Neuerscheinung der Publikation „Allianzenbildung: Zwischen Kunst und Antirassismusarbeit“, werden die Ergebnisse und Fragestellungen der theoretischen und künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung im Diskussionsraum „living room – SOHO“, 2004, im KunstRaum Goethestrasse präsentiert und zur Diskussion gestellt.
Wenn sich KünstlerInnen entscheiden, antirassistische Kunst zu betreiben, ist der Punkt erreicht, aus der Gemeinsamkeit entstandene Potentiale diverser politischer AkteurInnen optimal zu nutzen. Doch wie sehen egalitäre Formen der Zusammenarbeit aus? Wie kann Gleichheit gefordert werden, wenn asymmetrische Verhältnisse in der Verteilung von Ressourcen regieren? Welche Möglichkeiten der Allianzenbildung bestehen zwischen KünstlerInnen und Subalternen?
Rosemarie Reitsamer und Jo Schmeisers Projekt „Geteilte Territorien? Erkämpfte Gemeinsamkeiten“ geht den Fragen nach Voraussetzungen für strukturelle und nachhaltige Veränderungen von antirassistischer und antifaschistischer queer-lesbisch feministischer Arbeit im kulturellen Kontext nach. Entlang dieser Fragestellung, die sie letztes Jahr an den „living room – Soho“ adressierten, stellen sie Probleme und Potenziale politischer Arbeit im kulturellen Feld zur Diskussion. Ein Schwerpunkt wird dabei auf der Verwertung unbezahlter Arbeit und der Reproduktion prekarisierter Arbeitsverhältnisse liegen.

Ljubomir Bratic: Philosoph, Sozialwissenschafter und freier Publizist. Zahlreiche Publikationen über Selbstorganisation, Migrationsgeschichte Österreichs, Antirassismus und Aktivismus, Diversitätspolitik, Soziale Arbeit als Machttechnik, Politik und Kunst und Diskurs des Rassismus im österreichischen Staat veröffentlicht.

Daniela Koweindl: Studium der Kunstgeschichte; seit 1998 kunst- und kulturpolitische Text- und Projektarbeiten; seit 2001 kulturpolitische Sprecherin der IG Bildende Kunst.

ROSEMARIE REITSAMER: Musiksoziologin, Autorin und DJ; Herausgeberin der queer-feministischen Zeitschrift „Female Sequences“.

JO SCHMEISER: Künstlerin, Herausgeberin der feministischen antirassistischen Zeitschrift „Vor der Information“, Grafikerin und Autorin.

ANDREA HUMMER: Co-Direktorin eipcp – European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies, Organisatorin von (Kultur-) Veranstaltungen und PR-Beraterin.


“Building alliances“ is the theme of the Public Art Festival SOHO IN OTTAKRING 2004 and 2005, an encounter with the possibilities of egalitarian cooporation of artists and antiracist activists. On the occasion of the new publication of “ Allianzenbildung: Zwischen Kunst und Rassismusarbeit“, the results and issues of the theoretical and artistic confrontation in the discussion room „living-room SOHO“, 2004, will be presented and discussed in the Kunstraum Goethestrasse.
When artists decide to create antiracist art, the point has been reached where potential, derived from common interests of various political activists, needs to be used in the best way possible. But what do egalitarian cooperatives look like? How can equality be called for, when asymmetric conditions in the distribution of resources rule? What possibilities do exist to build alliances between artists and subordinates?
Rosemarie Reitsamer and Jo Schmeiser research in their project „Geteilte Territorien? Erkämpfte Gemeinsamkeiten“ the prerequisits for structural and lasting changes of antiracist and antifascist, queer-lesbian feminist work in a cultural context.
Problems and potential of political work in the cultural field, an issue they discussed last year in „living room SOHO“, will be up for discussion. Daniela Koweindl: Studied art history, publications and projects of art -and culture politics since 1998; spokesperson of IG Bildende Kunst for politico-cultural matters since 2001; she lives and works in Vienna.

Ljubomir Bratic: Philosopher, social scientist, and free publicist; published numerous essays and other text forms about self organization, Austria’s history of migration, antiracism and activism, politics of diversity, social work as a technique of power, politics and art and discourse of racism in Austria; he worked until recently at BUM -Büro für ungewöhnliche Maßnahmen and is currently on paternity leave; he lives and works in Vienna.

Rosemarie Reitsamer’s and Jo Schmeiser’s work focuses on feminist and antiracist practice in the fields of art, theory and music; the role of cultural production in concrete antiracist, feminist politics; the examination of racism and heterosexism; the discussion about by society re/produced differences between women; the production of work relations and public spheres in which asymmetries are negotiated, power – and government relations are attacked and strategies are being developed in terms of an egalitarian, multi-gender and transcultural society.
